Writer Jeff Buhler Sheds Light on Grudge RemakeWe told you that there was a remake or reboot or re-imagining or whatever they’re calling it now of The Grudge a few weeks back, and today some details as to just what this flick will be have come to light.

Writer Jeff Buhler spoke with FEARnet recently about what we should expect…

“We’re not approaching this as a remake of the Sarah Michelle Gellar film or a remake of the Ju-on film,” stated Buhler. “This is pushing the mythology forward while keeping the concepts and spirit of those movies, yet finding a new way to tell a story within that world, which is exciting.

Buhler also stated that the film will be home to “new characters, new ghost, and a new mythology. I’m not really at a liberty to say anything more than that for obvious reasons, as we are still in the scripting process. I think letting fans of the original series know that we are not going back to (the character of) Kayako and trying to mine what’s already been mined is important (though). We are still very early in the process.”

The original reboot of the 2004 Takashi Shimizu film starred Sarah Michelle Gellar, cost around $10 million, grossed $187 million worldwide, and hatched two sequels. It was based on the Japanese horror thriller Ju-on by Shimizu. The new one will be produced by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, and Taka Ichise with Roy Lee, Doug Davison, Joe Drake, and Nathan Kahane exec producing.
