If you answered “yes” to the title question, you’re in good company. In keeping with the mood of the rapidly approaching Halloween holiday, mainstream news source CNN.com of all places ran a story today that no less than a third of us believe in the existence of spirits from the hereafter.
The poll was conducted by the Associated Press and an organization called Ipsos, which defines itself as “a company of inquiring minds and passionate people giving a voice and shape to the thoughts of millions of individuals around the world.” Even more interestingly — at least to this woman — nearly one out of four (23%) say they’ve actually seen a ghost or felt its presence, almost half of us put credence in the concept of ESP, and close to 20% accept the existence of spells or witchcraft.
If you fall into one of these categories, then you’ve definitely come to the right place by visiting us at Dread Central. In the midst of our redesign you may have neglected to visit our Cold Spots feature, which is ripe with tales of haunted places sure to chill even the most hardened hearts among us. And if you’re looking for some spooky ghost movies to watch this weekend to lead you into Halloween Week on a high note, don’t forget to peruse our review database, where you’ll find perfect resources like Staci Wilson’s 50 Years of Ghost Movies or, for the travelers in the group, Ghostly Encounters, which recounts true stories of some of America’s haunted inns and hotels.
In the meantime, check out the rest of the article on CNN, which also includes a link to a story about what to do if you suspect your own house may be haunted although for my money, were I to be in that situation, the first and only person I’d call is Lou Gentile. Click here to visit Lou on MySpace, read about some of the DC staffers’ own experiences with him, and listen to some EVP. You’re sure to join that 1/3 group of believers after doing so — just in time for Halloween!
