Pre-Production Begins on Ruthless Pictures' The DeviceThe dudes behind recently released thriller The Invoking are hard at work on an alien abduction flick called The Device, which is housed under the quickly growing indie banner Ruthless Pictures. Read on for all the extraterrestrial details!

From the Press Release
Ruthless Pictures is in pre-production on the psychological thriller The Device, set to start filming at the end of March 2014. Written by Jeremy Berg and John Portanova, the film will be directed by Jeremy Berg and produced by Matt Medisch, the team behind the critically acclaimed thriller The Invoking, available now on DVD.

Exec produced by Jesse Baget under his Ruthless Pictures banner, The Device follows Abby and Rebecca Powell, who haven’t seen each other since a traumatic event in their youth ripped them apart. Reunited for the first time in over a decade, the sisters take a trip to spread their mother’s ashes at a secluded lake. As the sisters reconnect and try to heal old wounds, something waits in the nearby woods. A strange object, made not by the hands of man, beckons them to it. As they begin to try to unlock its secrets, Abby is plagued by nightmares of an alien presence that seem all too real. Little do the sisters realize that this object is actually a device, one with a purpose too horrible to comprehend. As the events of the past and the present begin to merge, new discoveries will threaten to tear apart their newly reformed family, and the inhuman creators of the device will attempt to finish a terrible experiment begun years before.

Of the project, director Berg says, “I’m very excited to be able to bring a story like this to life. Alien abduction has been a fascination of mine since I was a kid, and I’ve known many people with encounter stories. I grew up listening to these stories, and for me the existence of aliens has never been in doubt. The October People have created what I think is a great character-driven story to help explore the idea of alien abduction and its effects on individuals and their relationships. It’s a thought-provoking story that will also leave audiences frightened of what might lurk in the night skies above.”

Writer/producer Portanova believes, “There is no scarier horror scenario to me than an alien abduction. The idea that at any point in your life these creatures can appear and bend you completely to their will and there is nothing you can do about it frightens me to the core. I grew up on alien abduction films such as Intruders and Fire in the Sky and paranormal investigation shows like ‘Unsolved Mysteries.’ It’s been a lifelong ambition of mine to tell an alien abduction horror story, and I am very excited that The October People are reteaming with Ruthless Pictures to bring it to life.”

Ruthless Pictures is also currently in production on Damien Leone’s creature-clash blood-fest Frankenstein vs. the Mummy and the horror Werewolf Rises directed by BC Furtney.
