New Penny Dreadful Video Production Blog Takes Us to The Grand Guignol

If you’re in Austin at SXSW, you can catch an early screening of “Penny Dreadful” on Sunday, but if you’re stuck at home like the rest of us, you can content yourself with this new production blog that focuses on The Grand Guignol.

Theater was an important part of Victorian society and plays a key role in the Showtime series “Penny Dreadful.” Watch as creator/executive producer John Logan gives an in-depth look at The Grand Guignol and discusses how he recreated a Victorian theater in modern day Dublin.

In addition, don’t forget that the new Penny-Dreadful.com website has launched, and it’s chock-full of goodies. As is the “Penny Dreadful” YouTube Channel, the promo video for which is below as well.

Timothy Dalton, Reeve Carney, Josh Hartnett, Harry Treadaway, Rory Kinnear, Billie Piper, and Eva Green star.

“Penny Dreadful” is created, written, and executive produced by three-time Oscar nominee John Logan (Hugo, The Aviator, Gladiator) and executive produced by Oscar winner Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Skyfall) and Neal Street’s Pippa Harris (Revolutionary Road, “Call the Midwife”). Juan Antonio Bayona (The Orphanage, The Impossible) directs the first two episodes.

“Penny Dreadful” is set to premiere on Showtime on Sunday, May 11th, at 10PM ET/PT. If you’ll be at SXSW 2014, you can catch it on Sunday, March 9th, from 2:00-3:00 PM at the Vimeo Theater, 201 Trinity.

Synopsis
Some of literature’s most terrifying characters, including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray, and iconic figures from the novel Dracula, are lurking in the darkest corners of Victorian London. “PENNY DREADFUL” is a frightening psychological thriller that weaves together these classic horror origin stories into a new adult drama.
