Director Circling Raid Remake; Cast Being EyedWhy in the world we need a remake of The Raid right now is baffling. The original film did well when released here a couple of years ago, and there was so much action no one even complained about the subtitles. Besides, if you really wanna see an American version, go watch Dredd.

In any event, The Wrap is reporting that The Expendables 3‘s Patrick Hughes is in negotiations to direct The Raid remake for Screen Gems and XYZ films. Brad Inglesby (Out of the Furnace) wrote the script.

Casting has yet to begin, but the Hemsworth brothers – Liam, Chris, and Luke – have been mentioned as possible targets for the hard-hitting action movie!

Original Synopsis
Deep in the heart of Jakarta’s slums lies an impenetrable safe house for the world’s most dangerous killers and gangsters. Until now, the rundown apartment block has been considered untouchable. Cloaked under the cover of pre-dawn darkness and silence, an elite swat team is tasked with raiding the safe house in order to take down the notorious drug lord that runs it. But when a chance encounter with a spotter blows their cover and news of their assault reaches the drug lord, they find themselves stranded on the 6th floor with no way out. The unit must fight their way through the city’s worst to survive their mission.

You're such an inspiration for the ways that I will never, ever choose to be.

  • GODFLESH69

I heard that nutjob Shia Lebeouf was being considered for lead over at AIC that’s Hollywood for you clueless!

  • frank_dracman

This is going to be another Oldboy. Completely unnecessary and pointless remake. The upside is some people might get their first exposure to the original.

  • Diavolo

Baffles me that Hollywood doesn’t realise that it was the director and choreographer that made the film shine, the story is just there to frame the set pieces. Instead of high paced, kinetic fight scenes, we’ll get speed up/slow down, CGI derpery.

But while I’m here, DREDD II!!!!

    • GODFLESH69

A DREDD follow up would be f’n fantastic! I dont know what it pulled in internationally but it only did 13 million at box office here, even though it got a 78% Fresh rating from critics which is unheard of for that type of ballsy film. We can only hope it get’s done, until then Hollywood will push out subpar remakes of better foreign films.

Make it stop! Make it stop!

  • Rottenjesus

If this article somehow spawns a DREDD 2 I will have to admit that Steve is an evil genius instead of just plain E-V-E-L.

Also, fuck remakes. Fuck Remakes. FUCK REMAKES!

    • Uncle Creepy

You’re on to me, brother. ;)
