A bit of exclusive casting news has come our way for the sequel to The Purge as we can now tell you that veteran character actor and one of Hollywood’s go-to “bad guys” Jasper Cole has been added to the cast of the next violence-laden Universal and Blumhouse endeavor.
It was recently announced that Frank Grillo, Zach Gilford, Kiele Sanchez, Carmen Ejogo, and Michael K. Williams have also been cast in the sequel, which will hit theaters on Friday, June 20, 2014. Writer/director/producer James DeMonaco returns and will be joined by producers Jason Blum, Sebastien Lemercier, and Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes.
The original, which starred Ethan Hawke, was set in the future as a wealthy family is held hostage for harboring the target of a murderous syndicate during the Purge, a 12-hour period in which any and all crime is legalized.
Although perhaps best known for his role as Val Kilmer’s evil sidekick “Zeke Pleshette” in MacGruber, Jasper Cole’s lengthy resume includes Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan and the recent Hansel & Gretel, as well as the TV series “Friday the 13th” and “The Forgotten.” He also co-stars alongside Brittany Curran and Kristen Prout in the upcoming release Captured.
