When Warner Bros. released its remake of Clash of the Titans a few years ago, the plan was to do a trilogy of films. Thus far we had a single sequel in Wrath of the Titans and no word on the proposed third film until now.
IGN recently caught up with Basil Iwanyk, who produced both Clash and Wrath. Here’s what he shared regarding completion of the trilogy.
“In terms of Clash of the Titans 3, it’s one of those situations where we’ve seen it a million times; a movie will kind of float away and then come back when it’s supposed to come back. You’d think that there was three and a half, four years of nonstop Clash of the Titans activity, and I think it is, “Okay, what’s the new idea? How do you make it fresh?” You know, a lot of movies have come out in that world, including Immortals and 300. So there will be a time and place where someone will come up with a great idea for it and how to make it feel different and fresh from the previous ones. Then we’ll hopefully move forward on that.”
While the first film from 2010 — a remake of the 1981 Greek mythology opus — was successful at the box office with a $493.2 million haul worldwide, its 2012 sequel, Wrath of the Titans, exhibited a slide in interest from audiences, making $305.2 million.
