Chilean Horror Film Yokai Comes to the ShorelineYa know what kinds of stories I love to read? The ones where American distribution companies pick up foreign films and intend on releasing them, rather than remaking them. This is one of those stories. Read on for the skinny!

As per Variety, U.S. sales company Shoreline Entertainment has nabbed the worldwide rights to Chilean horror flick Yokai from first-time director Cristobal Echevensko. This marks the very first Latin American film that the company has ever scooped up.

As the buzz is building on Latin American genre films, I thought it was important that our first move into that sector was a game changing film,” said executive VP Sam Eigen.

Penned by Echevensko and described as a story of suspense with supernatural elements of terror, Yokai centers on Lydia, a 28-year-old employee of a jewelry store who tries to steal a valuable diamond from a man named Yokai. Yokai is a serial killer in his spare time, living at home with all the ghosts of his victims.
