Back in 2005, New Line acquired the production rights to the 90s comic series Parasyte, with plans on Takashi Shimizu (The Grudge) directing the live-action adaptation. It ended up being one of those projects that never happened…
…but it’s just been given new life courtesy of a new production company. Read on for the exciting details!
As per Variety, Japanese company Toho has picked up the rights to Parasyte, securing them after a bidding war that resulted from New Line ceding the rights. Takashi Yamazaki has been tapped to direct the two-part adaptation, with Part 1 set for release in December 2014 and Part 2 following sometime in 2015.
Shota Sometani will star as a teenager whose body is invaded by an alien parasite that takes over his hand instead of, like many of his fellow humans, his brain. He ends up battling for survival in a world teeming with seemingly normal but potentially deadly alien-controlled hosts.
Production begins in January of next year.
