AFM 2013: Pantelion Opening Up Summer Camp in the U.S.More AFM news is coming in via Variety, who reports that Pantelion Films, a joint venture of Lionsgate and Mexican media corp Televisa, will now distribute English-language horror film Summer Camp in North America.

Pantelion will also co-produce Summer Camp, which stars Diego Boneta (Rock of Ages) and is directed by Alberto Marini, scribe of Sleep Tight and co-writer and executive producer of cult zombie franchise [REC].”

The film will be produced by Julio Fernandez’s Filmax, the company behind the [REC] franchise, Peter Safran’s the Safran Co. (The Conjuring), and Pantelion. Marini’s Rebelion Terrestre will co-produce.

[REC] franchise co-director Jaume Balagero, a founding father with Fernandez of Spain’s modern auteur genre film, will serve as Summer Camp’s executive producer.

Filmax will distribute in Spain and handle international sales, kicking off at AFM. Pantelion is also negotiating with Filmax to take rights to Latin America.

Scheduled to go into production in Barcelona next February, Summer Camp centers on three American camp counselors who show up for their summer jobs at an English-language camp in Spain and come face-to-face with a virus unlike anything seen before.

We’re pleased to be working with Jaume Balaguero, Filmax, and the Safran Company to bring this bone-chilling horror film to an American audience,” Paul Presburger, Pantelion Films’ CEO, said.

This is a great boost for Filmax’s drive to produce big international commercial films out of Spain which do not depend, however, on Spanish financing, diminishing risk by significant pre-sales,” said Ivan Diaz, Filmax sales head.
