Wish For a New Look at JinnJust in time for Halloween (how we are starting to HATE that grouping of words) comes a new image from the upcoming flick Jinn, which is not to be confused with Tobe Hooper’s Djinn. Check it out right now.

From the Press Release
Detroit-based Exxodus Pictures and Freestyle Releasing announce a North American wide theatrical release date of April 4, 2014, for JINN, a tension-filled supernatural thriller. The film, written and directed by Ajmal Zaheer Ahmad, was produced by Ahmad, Benjamin Dresser, and Alan Noel Vega and stars Dominic Rains (Flight 93), Serinda Swan (USA’s “Graceland”), Ray Park (Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace), Faran Tahir (Elysium), and William Atherton (Die Hard). Richard Mandell, Najam Syed, and Shahid Syed executive produced the film for Exxodus.

The amazing story of JINN involves ancient mythological beings that have rarely been explored in US cinemas. The premise of the jinn concept, known to over 1 billion people around the world, involves ghost-like entities and revolves around creation mythology.

Already generating a substantial amount of early attention, this is the first film to accurately introduce and portray the jinn concept. JINN is also unique in that the vehicle used in the action sequences in the film, known as the “Firebreather,” was designed by director Ahmad and is the first vehicle in motion picture history available to the public for purchase. The “Firebreather” is a V8, 618-horsepower super exotic American muscle car with 50 limited editions being produced as the exact replica of the vehicle in the film. The car, several of which have already been sold, was designed by Exxodus to honor their hometown by creating modern design that fuses the soul of classic, American muscle.

The distribution deal was negotiated by Freestyle’s Co-President Mark Borde, Head of Acquisitions Chris Charalambous, and Richard Mandell and Najam Syed from Exxodus Pictures.

“The Exxodus team and I are very excited to be releasing JINN to the world. We have a tremendous responsibility to live up to the collective imagination of the people that already know about the jinn as well as revealing the concept to those who have never heard of it. Freestyle Releasing is the perfect partner as they have had many successes in the genre, and we feel they understand the originality of the concept,” said Exxodus’ Ahmad.

“We are happy to be distributing a film that will introduce Western audiences to an entirely new, entirely different supernatural concept; and I know that our team is excited to get this movie out to the public,” said Freestyle’s Borde.

Synopsis
In the beginning, three were created. Man made of clay. Angels made of light. And a third made of fire. For centuries, stories of angels and men have captured the imagination and been etched into history crossing all boundaries of culture, religion, and time. These two races have dominated the landscape of modern mythology, shrouding the evidence that a third was ever created. This third race, born of smokeless fire, was named the jinn. Modern man has all but forgotten this third race ever existed. It is time for him to remember.

We told you a while back that Zac Efron would be assuming the role of charismatic serial killer Ted Bundy in Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Joe Berlinger’s new film Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile (that title is a wondrous mouthful); and today Efron himself took to Twitter to share the first image of himself as Bundy. Check it out!

Michael Werwie wrote the script for the project, which is told through the perspective of Elizabeth Kloepfer, Bundy’s longtime girlfriend, who went years denying the accusations against Bundy but ultimately turned him in to the police. Only nearing his execution, when Bundy began talking about his extensive and heinous murders, did Kloepfer, and the rest of the world, learn the true scope of his numerous and grizzly murders.

Make a Date With The Devil and Father Amorth

Published

on

Well, that headline’s not entirely accurate… you wouldn’t want to be a third wheel now, would you? What we’re talking about here is William Friedkin’s new documentary The Devil and Father Amorth. In it Friedkin witnesses first-hand the work of the Vatican’s in-house exorcist; and if that doesn’t pique your interest, I don’t know what will!

Deadline is reporting today that we can expect to see the flick sometime this spring in theaters via The Orchard.

Known as the “Dean of Exorcists,” Father Amorth (who turned 92 not so long ago) has performed thousands of exorcism rituals to rid evil from the human body.

In the early 1970s when I directed The Exorcist, I had not witnessed an exorcism; but I wondered how close I had come to portraying reality,” Friedkin tells the site. “I had been curious to meet Father Amorth for many years; and when he granted permission to meet and film him in Rome last May, it was the opportunity to complete the circle and see how close that film came to reality.
