A&E Passes on the OccultWith horror on TV being several networks’ hot ticket, it comes as a bit of a surprise that A&E has passed on the new series written by James Wong (“The X-Files,” “Millennium,” “American Horror Story”) entitled “Occult.” Read on for details.

According to TVWise the cable network will not be moving ahead with the hour-long pilot that has been in development since 2012. “Occult” was well received by executives, but following the pick-up of “Those Who Kill” and the renewals of “Longmire” and “Bates Motel,” A&E brass felt that the proposed project was not in “a direction we wanted to pursue.” The news comes after A&E announced last month that they are developing an adaptation of the French series “The Returned” (AKA “Les Revenants”), which is being produced in-house by the recently launched A+E Studios.

Daniel Henney, Brennan Brown, Josh Lucas, Lynn Collins, and Agnes Bruckner were signed on to star.

“Occult” revolved around Dolan, an FBI agent (Lucas) who has returned from administrative leave after going off the deep end while investigating his wife’s disappearance. Eager to be back on the job, he is paired with an agent with her own complicated back story who specializes in the occult (Collins). Together, they will solve cases for the newly formed occult crimes task force. Bruckner was to play Lucy, an attractive, edgy young soul caught up in the occult. Presumed dead after being shot in the heart, she rises from the autopsy table, possessed and hell-bent on joining her fellow cultists.
