Neil Marshall Will Rewrite and Direct Troll Hunter Remake; Trolls Everywhere Rejoice!Though it was only made a few years ago, the Norwegian found footage flick Troll Hunter has already found itself on the remake chopping block. So goes it in Hollywood. But we think you’ll be pleased with the man in charge of the project.

As reported by Deadline, Neil Marshall will be rewriting and directing the remake, which is looking to begin production in early 2014. Currently shooting an episode of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” in Ireland, Marshall will begin work on the film as soon he returns. The writer/director of films like Dog Soldiers and The Descent will be taking over from an earlier draft of the screenplay written by Marc Haimes.

The film is being produced by 1492′s Christopher Columbus and Michael Barnathan and CJ Entertainment, along with the film’s original producers John Jacobsen and Sveinung Golimo.

The André Øvredal-directed 2010 Norwegian original Troll Hunter focused on a group of students investigating a series of mysterious bear killings. They follow a mysterious hunter into the deep woods, learning along the way that he is a troll hunter and that the creatures killing those bears might not confine their appetites to that species only.

As much as I dislike American remakes (or remakes in general) of great foreign horror/monster films. A TROLL HUNTER remake being handled by Neil Marshall is fantastic news.

I hope the remake is set in Britain, Scotland or Ireland and Liam Cunningham or Rhona Mitra are cast in the title role.

This is not fantastic news. Why remake a perfectly good movie? Just because some people are too lazy to read subtitles? I love pretty much all of Marshall’s stuff but I’m really tired of seeing foreign movies being remade into lesser films, no matter the director.

When was the last time a remake surpassed (or even come close) to the foreign original? The Ring? Vanilla Sky? Funny Games? The Vanishing (shudder)? Let Me In was good, but nowhere near Let The Right One In.

I have to admit, if Mitra gets in there, I may have to watch. On principle. Don’t question my logic.

A Troll Hunter remake set in the British Isles doesn’t really make sense. There aren’t many mountains, and there isn’t enough wilderness to hide in. Maybe western Scotland? (Not to mention that trolls are nordic monsters.)

Marshall’s made some good movies, one of which was excellent, but it’s difficult to imagine him topping the original.

I think he’ll put it into a setting that will allow for some atmospheric visuals and of course some of that gore that Marshall does so well.
