Well that didn’t take very long, and honestly? It’s no surprise. Given the whopping box office success of Insidious Chapter 2 over the weekend, word has come that another chapter in the Insidious franchise is on its way!
Insidious and Insidious Chapter 2 screenwriter Leigh Whannell will return to pen a third installment of the hit horror franchise for Entertainment One, FilmDistrict, and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions.
Absent from today’s threequel announcement is Whannell’s longtime collaborator James Wan, who helmed both Insidious features, including last weekend’s record-breaking $41M opener sequel. Wan just began filming on Universal’s Fast & Furious 7. Given that Wan has stated that he wants a break from the horror genre and doesn’t want to be boxed in as “just the horror guy,” we do not expect him to return for Insidious Chapter 3.
Jason Blum will produce the third Insidious film for Blumhouse Productions with Oren Peli (Paranormal Activity). Steven Schneider, Brian Kavanaugh Jones, Peter Schlessel, Lia Buman, and Xavier Marchand are executive producing.
