Several things led to the demise of Guillermo Del Toro’s recently planned adaptation of the H.P. Lovecraft novella At the Mountains of Madness, a project that had been talked about for years and at one point had Tom Cruise attached to star.
Disagreements over the budget and the rating plagued the project, and Del Toro put the final nail in the coffin when Prometheus came out, stating that his idea for the film was very similar to the direction in which Ridley Scott went with his pseudo-Alien prequel.
A user over on Imgur uploaded a bunch of pictures from Del Toro’s personal sketchbook, revealing never-before-seen concept art from At the Mountains of Madness. Though there’s still some small sliver of hope that the film may actually someday get made, for now these sketches are as close as we’re going to get to seeing Del Toro’s vision for the project come to life.
