Zaraah Abrahams Kickstarting Spike Lee ProjectA quick update has come in regarding Spike Lee’s crowdfunded next flick, which could very well be a horror movie given the announced subject matter. Even though details are vague, Lee has cast his female lead.

According to Variety, British actress Zaraah Abrahams (pictured) has landed the female lead in Lee’s Kickstarter-funded film. Lee revealed the selection on his Kickstarter page, where he has raised 54% of the $1.25 million needed. He has 15 days left to meet the campaign goal, and of course he’ll make it because people are idiots and would like nothing more than to hand over their hard earned dollars to a wealthy and established filmmaker who’s very capable of coming up with his own revenue stream.

Lee has raised nearly half the funds from two pledge areas — $260,000 from 26 pledges of $10,000 each for a courtside seat and dinner with Lee at a New York Knicks home game and $65,000 (lucky them) from 13 pledges of $5,000 each for associate producer credit on the film (oh boy).

The mysterious “Spike Lee Joint” project centers on humans addicted to blood.

You're such an inspiration for the ways that I will never, ever choose to be.

Well, I guess we see kickstarter differently. ;) Dont agree that “famous” or established filmmakers can do what ever they want if they are creative enough. ..(Looking at you “Mountains of Madness” from Guillermo del Toro)

There’s a vast difference between making a huge budget spectacle like Mountains of Madness and pulling together funds for a smaller budget horror flick.

Why so much hate for Spike Lee? There are tons of established filmmakers and artists out there creating projects for Kickstarter. David Fincher and The Goon, for example? Paul Schrader and The Canyons? Joe Dante and Dark?

Kickstarter definitely represents another way of funding creative projects. It stands for an alternative on the relationship between creatives and audiences. If Spike Lee (or any other artist, powerful or not) want to challenge the established system for film financing and distribution, more power to them. No?

    • Uncle Creepy

No hate for him directly… Kickstarter should be for the little guy… one who can use the support… filmmakers who lack the means to gather funds for their projects and not for celebrities who already have their foot in the door and can basically do or make whatever they want if they’re creative enough.
