We were recently given the heads up on a trailer for a really creepy looking Italian film called Across the River (Oltre il Guado). If nothing else, this two-minute preview proves that you can give people goosebumps without a word of dialogue.
Across the River was directed by Lorenzo Bianchini (Custodes Bestiae), who co-wrote it with Michela Bianchini. The movie stars Marco Marchese, Renzo Gariup and Lidia Zabrieszach.
Look for more on this one as we get it, but for now dig the trailer and hit the Splattercontainer.com link below for a few additional photos.
Across the River Synopsis
Ethnologist/naturalist Marco Contrada reaches the wooded areas of eastern Friuli on the border with Slovenia to carry out his usual work on the census of wild animals. Marco observes wild boar and deer, looks for traces of predators and maintains traps and cameras scattered over the forest to film animals. Looking at a fox on the webcam, he realizes that the animal comes close to the ruins of abandoned houses in the inner part of the forest. The next day he goes in search of those houses. Marco crosses a turbulent river while the rain begins to fall. He reaches the homes and realizes it’s an abandoned village surrounded by dead silence. Bad weather continues to rage and swell the waters of the streams, making them inaccessible. Marco is trapped.
Old photos found in the village school reveal something. Something wild, and not an animal. Fragments of a distant past emerge from the darkness. The rain is relentless; the unbearable frost and moisture get into Marco’s bones as he desperately seeks shelter in the houses of the abandoned village. Marco finds himself victim of an ancient curse that continues to live in that lost corner of the woods where solitude reigns supreme. He begins to hear inhuman screams echoing, very close, along the streets of the ghost village…
