Synapse Films Preps Restoration Of Obscure 1983 Slasher Flick, CurtainsThis has got to be the best news to break all week if you’re a slasher movie fan. We just learned that Synapse Films is prepping a 2k restoration of the little seen 1983 Canadian slasher gem Curtains.

According to the Synapse Facebook page, today marks the beginning of what will hopefully be a glorious resurrection of Richard Ciupka’s eerie and incredibly bizarre Curtains. The only question is whether or not the film’s elements have held up over time, so let’s hold our breaths and hope for the best.

From Synapse:

Today is the kind of day I both loath and love about this business. We have, in our hands, the only existing vault materials for a horror film that many love and have wanted for years to be done right on home video. I’m assigned to the task. The excitement is overwhelming just to SEE the film and find out what is in the cans. The “loath” part is usually the bad news where we find out it was improperly stored, torn, shredded, faded or whatever… But, we’ll find out. Synapse will MAKE THIS WORK! 2K scan work commence!

For those who have never seen it, Curtains is the story of six actresses called to an audition at a sinister and isolated mansion. Once there, they are picked off one-by-one at the hands of one of the genre’s creepiest masked slashers – the Hag.

This is one of two slasher acquisitions that Synapse Films has been hinting at. Since this film was previously held hostage by Echo Bridge Entertainment, one has to wonder whether or not the other movie Synapse has is 1980’s Prom Night. Watch this space and we’ll bring you more as we have it.

Saw this a couple of years ago, thought it was surprisingly good, certainly better than Prom Night, although less disco dancing and more ice skating! Nice to see its being restored and re-released!
