In early March we got word that a new Archie comic that includes zombies is on its way, and now we hear that Warner Bros. Pictures has closed a deal for a live action movie based on the series. If it will also include the undead isn’t clear, but just in case here are the details.
Deadline reports that Roy Lee and Dan Lin are producing with Jon Goldwater, Krishnan Menon, and Jon Silk as executive producers. Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) has signed on to direct while Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (“Glee”) is writing. Sources told the site that the screenplay envisions a “high school comedy based on the original line of Archie comics set in present day Riverdale.” Others add it’s a “Glee”/Picture Perfect-style musical. But…
Aguirre-Sacasa is the writer of Afterlife with Archie (the new zombie-based comics) and also scripted the upcoming remake of Carrie so it’s not a stretch to think he might add some horror elements to the Archie film.
We’ll keep our eyes on the story just in case, but for now file this one under “remote possibility.”
