Exclusive: V.G.P. Effects to Deliver Last BloodWith Mutant Chronicles director Simon Hunter currently in pre-production on the apocalyptic vampire/zombie feature Last Blood, we caught up with Vincent Guastini, head of V.G.P. Effects & Design Studio, who’s been tasked with delivering the flick’s special makeup effects, to get the skinny.

“I’m very excited about working with Simon,” said Guastini of the Last Blood director. “I’m a huge Mutant Chronicles fan, and during our Skype design meetings for Last Blood, we immediately started coming up with fresh ideas for the looks for the vampires and zombies. I have some pretty ‘out there’ ideas so we’ll see after more locked in meetings this week with Simon, but he has an open mind and did say, ‘Lets do something never seen before.’”

Based on the Keenspot graphic novel of the same name, Last Blood follows a small group of human survivors of a zombie apocalypse, who are running out of food and are surrounded by their brain-eating foes. When they are offered protection from a contingent of vampires in exchange for their blood, the adversaries form a coalition in the hopes of surviving the zombie horde, whose insane leader is out to eradicate all human and vampire life from the planet.

“Crazy stuff,” offered Los Angeles-based Guastini of his design work on Last Blood (his previous and recent effects history includes Requiem for a Dream, Dogma, The Devil’s Carnival, Sushi Girl and the upcoming feature Under the Bed). “Right now we’re doing designs and doing maquettes. Simon is flying over from Europe in the next few days to cast [the film] and to finalize some ideas. Last Blood is expected to shoot sometime in the fall back East, tentatively in Staten Island, New York.”

Last Blood will be produced by Ironclad executive producer Christian Arnold-Beutel and Red Giant Entertainment’s Aimee Schoof, Benny R. Powell and Isen Robbins, with Keenspot’s Chris and Bobby Crosby (the latter two created the graphic novel). The script was penned by Bobby Crosby and Nick V. Sterling.

Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation – First Trailer and Artwork!

Published

on

As a fan of flicks like Mad Monster Party, I was surprisingly pleased with the last two Hotel Transylvania affairs. For my money you can put the classic monsters in just about anything, and I’ll watch it happily, and these animated features feel like a natural progression of the 1967 Rankin and Bass classic. Which is why I’m looking forward to Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, and if you are too, check out the film’s new trailer and poster.

Directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, who co-wrote the film with Michael McCullers, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation features the voices of Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, Fran Drescher, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon, David Spade, Keegan-Michael Key, and Mel Brooks.

Look for it in theaters on July 13, 2018.

Synopsis:
In Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, join our favorite monster family as they embark on a vacation on a luxury monster cruise ship so Drac can take a summer vacation from providing everyone else’s vacation at the hotel. It’s smooth sailing for Drac’s Pack as the monsters indulge in all of the shipboard fun the cruise has to offer, from monster volleyball to exotic excursions, and catching up on their moon tans.

But the dream vacation turns into a nightmare when Mavis realizes Drac has fallen for the mysterious captain of the ship, Ericka, who hides a dangerous secret that could destroy all of monsterkind.

Universal Acquires Riley Sager’s Final Girls for Film Adaptation

Published

on

The “final girl” has long been a staple of the horror film genre, and lately there have been several films with just about that very same title focusing on her and/or them. Well, guess what… there’s another one coming as Deadline is reporting that Universal Pictures has won a bidding battle to option rights for Final Girls, the bestselling novel from Riley Sager that hit shelves this past July.

The movie adaptation will be produced by Anonymous Content’s Nicole Clemens along with Sugar23’s Ashley Zalta and Michael Sugar as that stand-alone company continues to ramp up.

Sager’s book centers on Quincy Carpenter, who 10 years ago as a college student went on vacation to Pine Cottage with five friends and came back alone, the only survivor of a horror movie-scale massacre. In an instant, the press dubbed her a “Final Girl,” coined for the group of similar survivors.

We’ll have more for you on this as it comes.
