Though they never officially entered the world of horror entertainment, The Doors was a band that many genre fans, including myself, hold extremely near and dear to our hearts. That being said… we’ve lost another true genius.
MSN is reporting that Doors founding member Ray Manzarek has passed on at the way too young age of 74. Keyboardist and singer Manzarek died Monday in Rosenheim, Germany, surrounded by his family, said publicist Heidi Robinson-Fitzgerald. Robinson-Fitzgerald said his manager, Tom Vitorino, confirmed Manzarek died after being stricken by bile duct cancer.
Manzarek founded The Doors after meeting then-poet Jim Morrison in California. The band went on to become one of the most successful rock ‘n roll acts to emerge from the 1960s and continues to resonate with fans decades after Morrison’s death in 1971.
We here at Dread Central would like to take this time to offer our sincerest of condolences to Ray’s friends, family, and constituents. Thank you for everything, Ray. We’re sure Jim was right there by your side to help you break on through. Your legacy will rock on!
