Anchor Bay Acquires North American Rights to Supernatural Thriller The Possession of Michael KingAnchor Bay Films is hard at work in France, having just acquired the rights to the David Jung-directed The Possession of Michael King at Cannes. The feature directorial debut of Jung, the thriller follows a widower who delves into the occult following the death of his wife.

The Possession of Michael King stars Shane Johnson and is the directorial debut of the film’s writer, David Jung. It co-stars Dale Dickey (Iron Man 3, Winter’s Bone), Tomas Arana (Gladiator), Ella Anderson (Touchback), and Julie McNiven (The Rapture, “Mad Men”). The Possession of Michael King is produced by Gold Circle Entertainment and is currently in post-production.

Today’s announcement was made by Bill Clark, president of Anchor Bay Entertainment. “Audiences love possession films, and this one is filled with all the thrills they’re known for,” commented Kevin Kasha, Executive Vice President, Acquisitions and Co-Productions.

Synopsis:
Grieving the shocking loss of his wife, Michael King (Johnson) sets out to disprove the existence of the supernatural, but as he journeys deeper into the occult, he discovers that some questions are better left unanswered.

This, of course, says nothing about the incredibly common and increasingly frustrating ”The Haunting/Possession of…” trend, but personal quibbles aside, it’s always great to see horror represented and making headway at Cannes.
