There’s an old saying about not putting the cart before the horse, but Summit is paying it no mind as the studio is already forging ahead with a sequel to its adaptation of the Veronica Roth bestseller Divergent by signing a writer for Insurgent.
The Divergent Facebook page added to its ongoing timeline with the following graphic, which notes that Brian Duffield (“Jane Got a Gun”) will be penning the script for Insurgent. Part 2 of the saga continues the journey of Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) as war now looms. Sides will be chosen, secrets will emerge, and Tris will risk everything as she struggles to harness her incredible power within.
Summit Entertainment’s highly anticipated feature film adaptation of DIVERGENT stars Golden Globe® nominated Shailene Woodley, Theo James, and Academy Award® winner Kate Winslet. The film also features Ray Stevenson, Maggie Q, Mekhi Phifer, Jai Courtney, Miles Teller, Zoë Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Tony Goldwyn, Ben Lamb, Christian Madsen, and Amy Newbold. The futuristic action adventure is directed by Neil Burger from a script by Vanessa Taylor. The original draft of the script was written by Evan Daugherty. Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher are producing the project via their Red Wagon Entertainment banner along with Pouya Shahbazian. Red Wagon’s Rachel Shane is executive producing alongside John J. Kelly. Summit will release the film theatrically in North America on Friday, March 21, 2014.
