Russell Crowe in Talks for The Boys

Russell Crowe, The BoysIf anyone here has read Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's brilliant graphic novel The Boys, you already know one thing ... this ultra-violent tale of psychopathic superheroes is simply screaming for a big screen adaptation. It looks like there very well could be one on the way!

According to MTV writer/director Adam McKay's movie version of The Boys is finally past the scripting stage, and McKay has been taking meetings with actors including Russell Crowe to play the flick's lead character, Billy Butcher.

"Everyone knows Simon Pegg can take Hughie if he wants," McKay said of the character which was based upon Pegg. "I don't know what his schedule is like, though. I'm writing completely on my own on that, so it's taking twice as long as it should. I am actually in the home stretch. I have about two weeks left on this draft, and we're going to try and get it made. It's looking pretty cool. I'm excited about it."

The Boys follows a group of CIA agents assigned to police the world's super-powered heroes and villains. Led by the tough-as-nails Billy Butcher, the super-powered team recruits meek civilian Hughie "Wee Hughie" Campbell in the first issue after his girlfriend is killed by a superhero.

NEXT STORY

I'm calling it right now, this will be rated PG-13. There's no way in hell it's going to be even NEARLY as fucked up as the comic.

It's a brilliant comic and it needs Simon Pegg and a director who follows the book PANEL BY PANEL to work.

I wish they'd just do what Rodriguez did for Sin City.
