Nothing in this world would make me happier than to find out that the death of Jim Morrison was all a ruse and Mr. Mojo Risin’ is alive, happy and whipping the horse’s eyes. Never gonna happen though. At least the folks of Bon Temps will be getting their own substitute. Sort of.

TVLine is reporting that “True Blood” has tapped “Brothers & Sisters” alum Luke Grimes play the recurring role of James, a circa ’70s-made vamp who is smart, spiritual and emotionally deeper than any other bloodsucker we’ve seen before. The “Jim Morrison of vampires” if you will.

He joins the previously announced newbies Rutger Hauer (as a mysterious figure with deep ties to Sookie and Jason), “Rubicon”’s Arliss Howard (as Louisiana Governor Truman Burrell), “Friday Night Lights” star Jurnee Smollett-Bell (as do-gooder Nicole), Karolina Wydra (as Violet, a strong, sexy, possibly dangerous vamp) and “90210”’s Amelia Rose Blaire (as Howard’s onscreen daughter).

Man, that’s an awful lot of new characters. Let’s hope they actually do something with them this season other than assigning them random pointless plot threads which add up to… well… nothing. Sadly, that’s been par for the course.
