We’re still floating on air thanks to the news that legendary actor Akira Takarada, who had a role in several Godzilla films including the original, has landed a part in Legendary Pictures’ take on the exploits of Big G. And now some light has been shed on what part Takarada will play.
From Tim Bean via the Legendary Pictures: Cast Akira Takarada in the new Godzilla Movie Facebook Group, who spearheaded the campaign:
“For the record Mr. Takarada filmed his scene on 3/18/13. His scene was the very first scene they shot. The YouTube video of Gareth Edwards stating that they just shot the first scene of the movie is the scene with Mr. Takarada. My take on this is by shooting his scene as the first shoot, [it] “symbolically” links the original Godzilla movie to this production. That again is me, not an official thing. He is now back in Japan. He is thankful for our effort in making this happen. Max Borenstein and Gareth Edwards are very happy about it also.”
Rock and roll, baby!
Gareth Edwards is directing the film from a screenplay by Max Borenstein, Frank Darabont, and Dave Callaham. Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are producing with Mary Parent and Brian Rogers. Alex Garcia and Patricia Whitcher are serving as executive producers alongside Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Richard T. Jones, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, David Strathairn, Juliette Binoche, Akira Takarada, and Ken Watanabe star.
A presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, Godzilla will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, except in Japan, where it will be distributed by Toho Co., Ltd. Legendary Pictures is a division of Legendary Entertainment.
Slated to open on May 16, 2014, the film is expected to be presented in 3D.
