The big news of the day has finally come as Monster House director Gil Kenan has been named as the person sliding into the director’s chair for the Sam Raimi produced remake of the 1981 classic Poltergeist.

The Poltergeist reimagining originally had Vadim Perelman (House of Sand and Fog) attached to direct, but then money woes at MGM slowed everything down to a grinding halt on the flick.

In case you’re a young whippersnapper or have been living under a rock, the original flick starred Craig T. Nelson and Jobeth Williams as the parents of a normal family whose dream house turns into a nightmare when their daughter is sucked into the TV, their son is attacked by a tree, and corpses pop up out of their backyard, thereby leaving the door open for a sequel starring a dying while filming Julian Beck as Reverend Kane, the spookiest preacher ever put to film.
