A Dozen Stills From Indie Terror Tale Absentia

Since the art of filmmaking has become accessible to the point of being able to make a movie in your own home on your PC or Mac, there has been a deluge of indie flicks hitting the market in various forms. Unfortunately, most miss a lot more than they hit, but every once in a while an indie movie will come along with just the right amount of everything and it makes the search for these gems all the more worth it. Case in point …

We had the opportunity to screen Absentia (review here) recently, and believe us when we tell you it’s like a breath of fresh air. Proof positive that with a good director and cast and a smart script, you do not need a massive budget to make a good movie. In fact, Absentia is one of the few fan-funded via Kickstarter flicks that we’ve come across to actually get made. Our hats are off to director Mike Flanagan and company. It’s awesome to see the little guy make good!

The flick stars Katie Parker, Courtney Bell, David Levine, Morgan Brown, Justin Gordon, James Flanagan, and genre favorite Doug Jones. Look for more on it soon!

Synopsis
Tricia’s husband has been missing for seven years. Her younger sister, Callie, comes to live with her as the pressure mounts to finally declare him ‘dead in absentia.’ Tricia is reluctant, always holding out hope, but Callie is practical and wants her to move on. As Tricia sifts through the wreckage and tries to move on with her life, Callie finds herself drawn to an ominous tunnel near the house. As she begins to link it to other mysterious disappearances, it becomes clear that his presumed death might be anything but ‘natural.’ It seems that the ancient force at work in the tunnel might have set its sights on Callie and Tricia … and Tricia’s husband might be suffering a fate far worse than death in its grasp.
