David Bond, one of the producers of The Profane Exhibit anthology film, dropped us a line today with some news that should be of interest if you plan to attend HorrorHound Weekend in March. Read on for the details!

From the Press Release:
The producers of The Profane Exhibit are excited to announce the screening of a sneak preview of their long-awaited horror anthology at HorrorHound Weekend in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Friday, March 22, 2013. A Q&A will also be offered with various directors, producers, actors, and team members of the 13-segment anthology… a few of which will have very special announcements. Some of the segments screened will be director’s cuts and may be the only time these versions will be available for viewing. The Profane Exhibit will be represented in various ways throughout the weekend (March 22-24).

Deep within the underbelly of Paris, there is a club which is the home of a secret, wicked society. At first it resembles an ordinary fetish or Goth nightclub, but hidden within the cavernous building are many hidden rooms, one of which is known as “The Room of Souls,” a private gathering place of the world’s richest and most evil people. Their host is the elegant yet frightening Madame Sabatier. For their amusement, each member takes a turn and spins a true tale of their depravity: A good wife learns that her husband goes out at night to abduct and murder young women; A botched suicide attempt leads to a drug induced dream; A girl is believed to be possessed by a demon, and her overly religious parents enlist the help of a corrupt reverend who has his own sinister plans; We are invited inside the deranged mind of a respected surgeon as he takes us on a guided tour of life, death, and everything in between; A young street prostitute crosses paths with a charismatic flesh trader and is forced to take an unspeakable journey of sex, violence, and murder; A nun is abducted off the streets of Rome and held captive for over a year, turning her into a feral, murderous creature to be unleashed on society; A chance encounter on a fateful bus ride for an unsuspecting girl who dreams of riches and fame is her undoing; A man picks up a woman in a nightclub and soon finds himself at the mercy of a cult of women who believe consumption of their sacrifice will bring them to their highest form of female dominance; An unflinching look into darkest Africa where human life is traded for fortune and the most unspeakable atrocities are committed.

The titles/directors are as follows; three spots are still left to be filled:
“22 Rue des Martyrs” – ?
“Manna” – Michael Todd Schneider
“Tochka” – Andrey Iskanov
“Good Wife” – Ryan Nicholson
“Tophet Quorom” – Sergio Stivaletti
“Bridge” – Ruggero Deodato
“Viral” – Coffin Joe
“Mors in Tabula” – Marian Dora
“Mother May I” – ?
“Coltan” – Richard Stanley
“Jigoku” – Yoshihiro Nishimura
“Basement” – Uwe Boll
“Sins of the Father” – Nacho Vigalondo
“Epilogue” – ?

The Profane Exhibit is an extreme international horror anthology film that was conceived, written, and produced by David Bond and Manda Manuel. Legendary horror writer Ray Garton wrote the wraparound segment, and Scott Swan (Showtime’s Masters of Horror) wrote the screenplay. Jeremy Kasten, director of such films as the recent Wizard of Gore remake, serves as the film’s editor.

“We are excited to host this significant moment in horror. In 2008 British columnist Ann Billson wrote, ‘Horror movies have always been a way of addressing our most unspeakable fears and desires… (they) draw on metaphors that are not polished and hermetically sealed, but misshapen or amorphous, like the monsters themselves, which leaves all the more room for individuals to interpret them on a personal level.’ If the metaphors were stripped away and the horror was presented in a raw, honest form, could an audience handle it? The Profane Exhibit is willing to test, and obliterate, those boundaries.” – Jason Hignite, HorrorHound Magazine

Universal Acquires Riley Sager’s Final Girls for Film Adaptation

Published

on

The “final girl” has long been a staple of the horror film genre, and lately there have been several films with just about that very same title focusing on her and/or them. Well, guess what… there’s another one coming as Deadline is reporting that Universal Pictures has won a bidding battle to option rights for Final Girls, the bestselling novel from Riley Sager that hit shelves this past July.

The movie adaptation will be produced by Anonymous Content’s Nicole Clemens along with Sugar23’s Ashley Zalta and Michael Sugar as that stand-alone company continues to ramp up.

Sager’s book centers on Quincy Carpenter, who 10 years ago as a college student went on vacation to Pine Cottage with five friends and came back alone, the only survivor of a horror movie-scale massacre. In an instant, the press dubbed her a “Final Girl,” coined for the group of similar survivors.

We’ll have more for you on this as it comes.

Trailer: Paul Solet’s Bullet Head Hits Blu-ray This January

Published

on

After checking out writer-director Paul Solet’s pregnancy gone awry flick Grace a few years back, the talented filmmaker made my list of directors to watch out for.

And it is with this in mind that we’d like to share the trailer and Blu-ray/DVD release info for his newest action-survival-crime flick Bullet Head.

The movie stars Adrien Brody, John Malkovich, and Rory Culkin (Scream 4) as a group of thieves trapped in an abandoned warehouse with a vicious man-eating dog…

And Antonio Banderas?

That’ll work!

The trailer reminds me of Fede Alvarez’s Don’t Breathe, but as we all know, that is NOT a bad thing. Throw in some crime-movie good times and this could be a sleeper hit.

You can check out the trailer for yourself below – along with a full list of special features – and then let us know what you think in the comments below or on social media!

The film has been rated R by the MPAA for “violence, bloody images, language, some drug use, and nudity.”

Bullet Head hits theaters December 8th, and Blu-ray/DVD January 9th, 2018.
