Lionsgate Eyeballing The Eye

Jessica Alba to star in The Eye remakeSeems no matter what happens to it, the U.S. remake of The Eye is doomed to have someone less than desirable attached to it.

Once Renée Zellweger decided she didn’t want to do the remake, the momentum that was behind it from rights holder Paramount dissipated. Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner were set to produce, but their deal is also nearing expiration. Enter the mighty Lionsgate!

Variety is reporting today that the mini-major is nabbing the film out of turnaround hell, which makes a helluva lot more sense than Paramount owning it. Now the only issue is that Jessica Alba, she of the fabulous eye candy (see pic here…. yum) but complete lack of acting chops, is attached to star in the remake once she finishes work on the Fantastic Four sequel.

The good news, aside from Lionsgate’s presence of course, is that French directors David Moreau and Xavier Palud are still attached to direct. The duo recently got a lot of buzz for their strange and twisty Ils, so perhaps they will be able to squeeze a good performance out of Alba and make it all worthwhile. The Eye remake rolls this winter.
