Despite some nagging legal woes Legendary’s new Godzilla film seems to be very much on track. In fact, according to screenwriter Frank Darabont, in the new film the big guy is nothing short of a force of nature. Read on for details.

Recently i09 caught up with Darabont, who had this to say…

“What we’re trying to do with the new movie is not have it camp, not have it be campy,” Darabont tells the site. “We’re kind of taking a cool new look at it… We want this to be a terrifying force of nature. And what was really cool, for me, is there was a very compelling human drama that I got to weave into it. It’s not that cliched, thinly disguised romance or bromance or whatever. It’s different; it’s a different set of circumstances than you’re used to seeing.” When asked if he had plans to follow in the footsteps of the original film and connect the plot to a more contemporary issue he replied, “Yes, I am, but I’m not going to give it away.”

Let’s just hope this “cool new look” at things doesn’t involve a giant iguana chicken who can’t shoot fire.

Godzilla is still on course to begin production in March with the film dated for a May 16, 2014, release.

Great, he goes in with the whole “Those Japanese movies were too campy” attitude. Not good. Also he obviously has not seen the 1990s series. Force of nature Godzilla was pretty much the subtext of that series.

Yeah, I’m not exactly getting positive vibes from this article.

Every new article I read on this shit I get more and more concerned.

hmmm…I’m really not liking the sound of this ‘compelling human drama’ crap; these movies very rarely get that right when they try and do it :\ it’s either gotta be corny and hilarious but played straight, or genuinely GOOD hahaha. The remake was somewhere in the middle with the ‘human drama’ and it failed miserably…
