Today’s a big day for Norwegian helmers Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, whose Kon-Tiki was just nominated for a Best Foreign Language Film Oscar. They are also near a deal to make their Hollywood debut.
Per Deadline, they are signing a seven-figure pact to direct Spectral for Legendary Pictures. The script, based on a treatment by Ian Fried and with a most recent script draft by Jayson Rothwell, is being viewed as a potential franchise.
When we heard of Spectral previously, the description was as follows: Centered on a modern-day, militaristic, and gritty approach to fighting the supernatural, it is a darker and more serious take on a Ghostbusters-like story, with a plot that revolves around a special ops group formed to bring down evil ghosts that have taken over Manhattan.
Now that the directors have been found, look for more soon!
