From the Press Release
NARR8 announced that famed science fiction and fantasy writer Vadim Panov is joining NARR8 to create a new series adapted from his popular Russian fantasy novel series The Secret City. NARR8 is a free application available worldwide for the iPad and iPad Mini that delivers fresh episodic series in the form of motion comics, interactive novels, and nonfiction articles. Best known for his work on The Secret City, Panov has sold over five million books and won the prestigious Fantasy Writer of the Year bestseller award twice at RosCon, the largest event for fantasy writers and literary agents presented by leading Russian publishing house Exmo.

“When I was faced with the prospect of working with NARR8, I was thrilled. The idea of the platform is unique as it combines the growing and dynamic digital content space with books and comics. I’m excited to explore such a new territory, and I look forward to seeing how NARR8 makes my stories come alive,” said Panov.

Panov began writing this urban fantasy series in 2001. The Secret City consists of 15 novels and two collections of short stories created by both Panov and his fans via a special contest. In The Secret City magical races of gnomes, elves, witches, and vampires thrived until humanity sought to wipe them out. As humanity began to kill them off, these magical beings went into hiding. Meanwhile, humanity built an entire city over this conquered land to develop technology and urban culture. In this adapted series the story of The Secret City is one of epic war between these strange enchanted creatures and humans that takes place in New York.

The new series will debut this month, marking the first time that NARR8 produced a licensed series based on an existing intellectual property; this exciting new project will be led by Midian Studio, creator of Fear Hunters. Midian Studio will work closely with the author and combine motion comic-style dialogue, animations, gorgeous graphics, and interactive game features with Panov’s thrilling tale.

“We started producing the series with great enthusiasm because of the interesting idea, exciting story, charisma of the characters, lively universe, and great humor! We are sure that it will be a great read for our readers and users,” said Midian Studio.

“We chose The Secret City because Vadim Panov is one of the most popular Russian sci-fi and fantasy authors out there. The dynamic narrative of his books is a perfect fit for NARR8 because we can bring them to life with animations and special effects,” explained NARR8 founder Alexander Vaschenko. “And by the way, I’m a big fan of Panov’s printed work myself, so I’m delighted that we can present his stories in an entirely new, entirely digital way this December.”

Read Darren Aronofsky’s Screenplay for mother!

This past year we saw the release of writer-director Darren Aronofsky’s mother! (review) a film that was controversial, to say the least. Some loved it, others loathed it.

And speaking of mother!, Aronofsky has said before that he wrote the movie in a mere 5 days (!) and today we have the film’s screenplay for you to download. Paramount released it officially a few weeks back and I say it’s worth the download and the read.

Especially if you fancy yourself as a screenwriter, like me.

What I found most interesting about Aronofsky’s script is that he forgoes typical sluglines. Instead, he jumps from location to location, without any uses of INT./EXT. or DAY/NIGHT. For instance, instead of writing:

Interesting approach.

You can download the screenplay for mother! right here.

After giving the script a read through, hit me up in the comments below and let’s start a dialogue about the screenplay, the format, the structure, and the finished film in general if you’d like. I’m big into the craft of screenwriting so let’s talk about it!

The film is written & directed by Darren Aronofsky and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Michelle Pfeiffer, Brian Gleeson, Domhnall Gleeson, and Ed Harris.

mother! hits Digital HD Dec. 5 and 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray Combo Packs Dec. 19.

A couple’s relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence. From filmmaker Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream), mother! stars Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer in this riveting psychological thriller about love, devotion and sacrifice.’.

Bigfoot Horror Movie Cherokee Creek Gets Trailer and Poster

I have always said that the last movie monster out there that has yet to get a quality flag-ship flick is Bigfoot. Everyone in the world knows Bigfoot (right?) so why the hell isn’t there a “Holy Grail” movie centered around the big, hairy sumbitch?

Don’t get me wrong, there have been a few quality motion pictures based on the big guy including Bobcat Goldthwait’s Willow Creek and Edwardo Sanchez’s Exists. But neither of those films blew the roof off the movie-going public.

Maybe Cherokee Creek will finally do the trick?

We’ll have to wait and see. But until the film has an official release date we can always take a look at the film’s trailer and poster – both of which you will find below.

Give them a look and then make sure to let us know what you think has been the best Bigfoot movie thus far (Harry and the Hendersons?) in the comments below!

The film is written and directed by Todd Jenkins and stars Billy Blair, Todd Jenkins, Justin Armstrong, Terry Dale Parks, Ray Hosack, Jeff Swearingen, Justin Duncan, CG Lewis, Nellie Sciutto, Steve Mokate, Jason P. Kendall, Anthony Phoenix, James Yeager, Elizabeth Jenkins, and Jinx Jenkins.

Edward James Olmos Says Shane Black’s The Predator is Really Funny, Yet Deadly

When we first heard that writer-director Shane Black (Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Band, The Nice Guys) and his main collaborator Fred Dekker (Night of the Creeps, The Monster Squad) were going to be taking on a big-budget reboot/sequel of Predator we were excited as hell. As we’re sure you were as well.

We knew the film was going to be, at least in some aspects, the funniest Predator film we have seen thus far. I mean with Black and Dekker penning the script how could it NOT?

But just how funny will The Predator be?

Well, if we are to believe and co-star Edward James Olmos, the movie is going to be hilarious… yet still deadly.

The Blade Runner actor was recently out and about promoting the new Disney film Coco, and dropped some all-new info on Shane Black’s The Predator.

“Oh, my goodness. That’s an interesting story,” Edward James Olmos told the site. “I haven’t seen any of it, but it’s gonna be funny. The kids in the thing. Yeah, the humor. Huge. Huge. I mean I was in shock, because, you know this is a really intense franchise, and it still is. Don’t get me wrong. You’re gonna be inside of it. But the characters are… what he did — Shane is an incredibly gifted writer, and he’s a great director, and so he ended up getting an incredible ensemble, and when I reached it they had already been filming for three months so they were a unit. So I jump in as the General and there were some moments where I just had to laugh in the scene and I couldn’t be laughing in the scene. ‘I’m sorry guys. Really, I’m sorry.'”

“Keegan (Michael Key) and Thomas Jane, they’re paired off in groups of three groups,” he continues. “Six guys. The way they work, they were all post-traumatic stress disorder guys who were inside of an insane asylum. A mental hospital. Then they put the lead character in there to kind of make them disappear, because they want them kind of out of the picture. And so he gets involved and then boom, the world goes crazy and these kids are released. But out of a freaky incident with some of the Predators. It’s crazy. It’s so crazy. I’m excited for it, and I don’t know what’s gonna happen. I got a good feeling about it. I mean if it’s really funny, and yet deadly like Predator is.”

I’m not surprised at all that the film is going to be funny, and the thought of a humorous Predator movie doesn’t worry me in the slightest either. I have utter faith that Black and Dekker will give us one of the best Predator films in the franchise.

What do you think? Let us know below!

The Predator stars Thomas Jane, Edward James Olmos, Sterling K. Brown, Trevante Rhodes, Boyd Holbrook, Jacob Tremblay, Olivia Munn, Alfie Allen, Yvonne Strahovski, Augusto Aguilera, and Keegan-Michael Key.

Black is directing from a script by Fred Dekker. John Davis, Joel Silver, and Lawrence Gordon — who produced the original — are producing.

The Predator comes out August 3, 2018.
