Charlize Theron is without question one of the best damned actors in the business with the chops to pull off just about anything. Next up for the spicy blonde is William Monahan’s adaptation of Park Chan-wook’s Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.
According to Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures is partnering with Charlize Theron’s Denver & Delilah Films and CJ Entertainment to produce. Annapurna will finance the film, while Panorama Media will handle international sales.
Theron will star as well as produce with Denver & Delilah partner Beth Kono; Annapurna’s Ellison and Chelsea Barnard; CJ Entertainment’s Ted Kim; and Monahan. Justine Suzanne Jones of Henceforth Pictures, AJ Dix of Denver & Delilah, Ted Schipper of Annapurna and Miky Lee of CJ Entertainment will exec produce. Ellison and Annapurna Pictures will finance the film.
The third film in Park’s acclaimed revenge trilogy, Lady Vengeance follows a woman who, for reasons of her own, completes a prison term for a murder she did not commit, re-emerging to punish the killer and avenge the dead.
“This will be very American – and very unexpected,” Monahan said. “Park is a genius; it’s the Everest of adaptations, and I’ve got blood in my teeth to do it.”
More as it comes.
