First Look at David Tennant as Peter Vincent in Fright Night Remake
A couple of photos have surfaced of a promotional banner of actor David Tennant (best known to fans all over the globe as Dr. Who) portraying his Peter Vincent character in the upcoming Dreamworks remake of Fright Night.
In the original Peter Vincent (portrayed by the iconic Roddy McDowell) was a fallen horror host who reluctantly helps a young Charley Brewster battle his neighbor Jerry Dandridge, who also happens to be a bloodthirsty vampire who torments the teen.
However, if you take a look at the pics below, you can definitely tell that Tennant's version of Peter Vincent is a bit modernized, almost as a Criss Angel-type of entertainer. Since the new imagining of the story is set now in Las Vegas, this seems to be right on track.
So take a look for yourselves, fiends, and let us know what you think below!
Despite the setting, the new version sticks to the original concept of a teen named Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin), who is convinced that his new neighbor is a vampire, though no one will believe him.
Colin Farrell has the plum role of the vampire, named Jerry, who on the surface appears to be a cool guy but is really preying on the neighborhood. Christopher Mintz-Plasse is playing Brewster's best friend, Evil Ed; "Doctor Who"'s David Tennant will be playing Peter Vincent; Sandra Vergara will play Vincent's assistant; Imogen Poots is popular high school senior Amy; Emily Montague will play Doris, a victim of the head vamp in Vegas; and Toni Collette is on board as Charlie's mom, who at first disapproves of the new arrival but changes her attitude when she meets the magnetic man and -- surprise -- doesn't believe her son when he tries to tell her Jerry is a vampire.
Look for Fright Night in theatres on October 7th, 2011.

Not a huge fan of the remake trend (though I have to admit, some of them have been damned fine movies in their own right..The Crazies comes to mind) but actually, I find this interpretation of Peter Vincent intriguing. It depends on what direction they take it. If they play it in a similar vein to the original (ie a man who professes to have some working, hands-on knowledge of the supernatural being revealed as a fraud when confronted with an actual modern day vampire) this could be a fun watch. If they play him straight? Ehhhhh...I don't know about that.
The thing to remember is, the original came out in 1985 (and it's still my favorite vampire movie, by the way). Back then, horror movie hosts were more commonplace, but even by that time they were a dying breed (which was actually a plot point in Fright Night). So in order to make the character more relatable to a current audience and set the film in present day, they do need to upgrade him. This seems like a logical progression to me.

Yeah, I'm with you on this one. I'm not entirely hating the idea of this film as much as I thought I would, but this isn't really giving my confidence a boost. Still, it's a year and change from now, so we'll just see.
