AFM 2012: Dark Feed Lands North American and International Distribution; New Image Released

You may have thought we were done for the day with distro news, but one more announcement just slipped in under the wire. Grindstone/Lionsgate Home Entertainment have acquired North American rights to Dark Feed, and Recreation Media has taken on international rights for the film, which is currently screening at AFM.

Grindstone Entertainment Group has acquired North American rights, and Recreation Media has acquired international rights to writer/directors Michael Rasmussen and Shawn Rasmussen’s anticipated directorial debut, the horror film DARK FEED. Lionsgate Home Entertainment will distribute in North America. The deals with Grindstone and Recreation were negotiated by Ronna Wallace from Eastgate Pictures. The Rasmussen brothers produced the film along with Glenn Cooper, Roger Danchik and Jon Huberman.
In DARK FEED, a group of young professionals are terrorized while working in an abandoned psychiatric hospital when it appears that insanity is spreading among them like a virus. The Rasmussen brothers have developed a horror fan base since they wrote the screenplay to the 2010 asylum thriller John Carpenter’s The Ward.
Grindstone Entertainment partner Stan Wertlieb commented, “Michael and Shawn Rasmussen are a fresh new talent pool. They know how to scare even the most jaded horror fan! Keep an eye on them.”
Recreation President and CEO Ariel Veneziano, said, “DARK FEED fits right into our strategy of consistently bringing exceptional genre films to the international marketplace.”
“It’s extremely exciting for us to be working with Grindstone and Lionsgate,” said the directors, Michael and Shawn Rasmussen. “Many of the films that have inspired us over the years have come from them. It is an honor to have DARK FEED included in such a library of great horror films.”
Wertlieb and Grindstone’s Christy Cannon negotiated on behalf of Grindstone. Legal negotiations and services for Eastgate were provided by Shelley Surpin of Surpin & Mayersohn, LLP.
DARK FEED was shot in and around Boston, using some of the same buildings featured in Shutter Island. Roger Danchik (Art Director on Session 9) did the production design for the movie, and the film’s haunting original score was created by award winning composer John Kusiak, who scored Errol Morris’s recent film Tabloid.
Synopsis
When a film crew moves into an abandoned psychiatric hospital with a shadowy past to shoot a low budget horror film, they get more than they bargained for. The late nights and lack of sleep begin to take a toll, and the longer this crew works, the more the leaky, wet building seems to be coming back to life, feeding off its new inhabitants.
