Recently finished up with her role in Michael Biehn’s directorial debut, The Victim, legendary scream queen Danielle Harris seems to be one genre icon with a schedule that just doesn’t ever empty. Happily, however, she took a few minutes to chat with us about her upcoming projects.
Dinner party-turned-murderous-disaster flick Among Friends signals Harris’ first turn calling the shots behind the camera, “My first directing gig was an amazing experience. I learned more than I knew I needed to learn for sure and can’t wait to do it again! The final product is better than I had hoped, and I had high expectations from the start, so I’m really excited for our release.”
We quizzed her on the origin of the story: “The film was penned by our star/producer Alyssa Lobit, and when I came on board, we sat together and altered a few things here and there. I hope genre fans will love it! I have a pretty good idea on what the fans want to see, and I believe I was able to bring it to ‘Among Friends’.”
Things seems to be running smoothly with positive reactions coming in, according to Danielle, “We’ve had very few screenings, but the feedback has been amazing. We are just about to première at Sitges International Film Festival, Horrorthon Dublin, and Lund Copenhagen this coming month.”

The third chapter in the successful Hatchet series, now directed by BJ McDonnell, sees Harris reprising her role as Marybeth, having taken over from Tamara Feldman in the second installment. When asked to compare her version of the character to Feldman’s, Harris is emphatic in her point: “We’re just totally different actresses so there’s no comparison. My Marybeth in ‘Hatchet 3’ is completely different than the last one, too. After all Marybeth has endured, she grows in different ways each time.”
Dread couldn’t resist prodding Harris for the scoop on what Hatchet fans can expect in the third: “Each ‘Hatchet’ movie always tops the last, and this one spares no expense. If there is another ‘Hatchet’ film, I couldn’t tell you if I was coming back or not because then you’d know if I lived or died! Sorry…”
And what’s next on the agenda for one of horror fans’ most beloved icons? “Just traveling around getting ‘Among Friends’ out there and looking for the next movie to direct. Know any writers?”
Many thanks to Danielle for taking the time out to chat with us.
