After a tremendous first year raising over $30,000 to help children in need, the sCare Foundation and horror community are at it again. The sCare Foundation will host its 2nd Annual Halloween Benefit Event at the Conga Room at L.A. Live on Sunday, October 28, 2012.

The evening will be packed with great entertainment, a silent auction and plenty of exciting prizes.

We had a terrific inaugural event last year and as a result, were able to donate to the Hollywood Homeless Youth Partnership,” commented sCare Foundation founder Malek Akkad. “As a result of the funds raised, HHYP was able to support paid internships for youth transitioning from homelessness to stability as well as purchase much needed medications for homeless youth who are uninsured and diapers for homeless youth who are parents. This year, we hope to do even more. As a group, the horror community can and will make a difference and this event is just one of the many ways to make that happen.

Last year’s inaugural Halloween Benefit Event honored the career and tireless charity work of two time Golden Globe® winner Jamie Lee Curtis. A donation was made in her name to benefit the CHAMPION Fund at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Additionally, Malek announced the formation of the Rima Grant, in memory of his late sister. The Rima Grant supports organizations that work with orphans and children who have lost their parents to tragic circumstances.

The sCare Foundation was created to focus on issues affecting today’s youth – poverty and homelessness. There are over 1.6 million homeless youth in American and an additional 5-7% become homeless in any given year. And currently, youth in the United States are more likely to live in poverty than any other developed nation. The goal of the sCare Foundation is to help alleviate some of these issues.

Founded by Malek Akkad, producer of the successful Halloween franchise, sCare Foundation (Suspense Community Allocating Relief and Empowerment Foundation) is a non-profit organization dedicated to alleviating the hardships of poverty and homelessness facing today’s youth throughout North America. sCare Foundation’s focus will be to provide financial support to existing youth programs throughout North America as well as arranging special sCare Foundation activities for the children such as set visits, movie screenings, celebrity meet-and-greets and more. In addition to working with children in need, the sCare Foundation aims to involve more young people in philanthropy and develop their passions and skills to give back to their own communities. Honorary board members include filmmakers John Carpenter and James Wan. sCare wholeheartedly believes that the suspense genre demographic is an untapped resource of unlimited potential in giving and changing our global community. It can be a part of the solution.
