Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Finds a Director in Cloverfield's Matt ReevesA director has been found to fill the spot recently vacated by Rupert Wyatt on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and our only regret is that now we’ll have to wait even longer for that damned Cloverfield sequel!

According to Deadline, Matt Reeves has been set to direct Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the 20th Century Fox sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Reeves was atop the list to replace Rupert Wyatt, and the other names we’d heard were in contention were The Disappearance of Alice Creed helmer J Blakeson, 28 Weeks Later helmer Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, Take Shelter director Jeff Nichols, Pacific Rim helmer Guillermo del Toro, The Impossible helmer Juan Antonio Bayona and Looper helmer Rian Johnson (though Johnson’s reps denied he was in the hunt).

Twentieth Century Fox’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will infect theaters on May 23, 2014. In it Andy Serkis reprises his role as the ape “Caesar”.

Amanda Silver, Rick Jaffa, Scott Burns penned the screenplay that “continues the story set forth in last year’s critical and commercial hit movie featuring simians that are given human intelligence and subsequently break out of their facility. At the same time a virus breaks out that causes the collapse of human society. The new project is taking the story to the next level, with the apes on the path to emerge as society’s new rulers.

Look for more as it comes.
