Word of a new thriller coming out of Australia landed in our inbox recently, and once we got a few more details, of course we had to share them with you! Read on for the first word about and a teaser trailer for Sororal from Nakatomi Pictures.

The film is close to complete and was written by Sam Barrett and Robbie Studsor, directed by Sam Barrett, shot and edited by Ivan Davidov, and produced by David Karsten. The key cast members are Amanda Woodhams, Liam Graham, Nicola Bartlett, Jeremy Levi, and Vito De Francesco.

Synopsis:
Cassie is tormented by visions of murder. Terrifying images flood her dreams and attack her waking hours. Her dreams are her curse and keep her isolated from the everyday world. Cassie’s life is thrown into disarray when a mysterious detective comes to her with a bombshell: He tells her that her visions are depictions of real murders, murders that she couldn’t possibly have seen. Cassie’s pain now has a face, and she must stop the killing at all costs. The twisted, childlike killer targets Cassie’s loved ones, and the race is on to stop her. Cassie is thrown together with her former lover as they scramble towards a shocking revelation that will change everything.

“We have endeavored to create a loving ode to this outrageous Italian subgenre. Really this comes down to imagination. One thing that the giallo cycle has in spades is imagination. Anything could happen,” says director Barrett.

Cassie is played by Perth actor Amanda Woodhams, who came to the production with a background in short film, theatre, and television. “You don’t expect much from auditions because the process is tough on actors; it’s awkward for everyone really,” says Barrett. “Amanda’s audition was incredible. Right from her first read she gave Cassie an intensity and a vulnerability that absolutely grips you.”

The casting decision for the character was critical, according to Barrett. “The story has some elements that could come off as, well, ludicrous in the harsh light of day: evil scientists, mind control, and psychic bonds. We really needed a lead actress who could interpret the uncanny elements sincerely. Amanda approached the character in a very honest way, and that’s the strength of her performance. She treated the character with the utmost respect, and now I couldn’t imagine anyone else in the role. She is Cassie.”
