Fomer Harry Potter Daniel Radcliffe Has a Hunch about FrankensteinInteresting casting news talk coming out of Fox’s Frankenstein camp. It sounds as if Mr. Potter is ready to do some toiling in a completely different kind of alchemy lab. Read on for details.

According to The Wrap, Daniel Radcliffe is interested in playing the lead role of Hunchback in Paul McGuigan’s revisionist take on the classic tale of Frankenstein. The film is in the works at Twentieth Century Fox, where the focus for now is getting a finalized script, at which point serious talks will begin with actors, says a source close to the project.

Earlier this month, McGuigan signed on to direct the film for Fox and producers Davis Entertainment.

Based on a script by Max Landis (Chronicle), this adaptation of Mary Shelley’s novel of the same name, puts a sci-fi take on this classic story about a creature produced through a scientific experiment. Hunchback is described as pathologically dirty and dressed in old clowns clothing.

I really don’t get calling this a sci-fi take/spin/whatever on the Shelley novel. That’s not a knock on you Creepy, I know that’s a press release thing.

The novel is already science fiction. Just because it was written a long-ass time ago doesn’t mean it can’t qualify. Sure, it’s soft sci-fi (she doesn’t bother describing how the machine that brings the Creature to life works, and of course it is highly improbable), but it’s still sci-fi, and horror of course. Hell, it’s probably one of the earliest sci-fi/horror genre mash-ups, if not THE earliest.

Okay, got that off my chest, panties unbunched now.

BOO! I love sweet Daniel but…BOO! As long as Guillermo del Toro is still Breathing…he should be the only director allowed to Touch FRANKENSTEIN. So sad if this Fox tripe ends up hurting any prospect of that.
