FX took a gamble by entering “American Horror Story” in the Emmy Awards category of “Miniseries or Movie” rather than “Drama Series,” and the jury’s still out as to whether it paid off for them or not. After receiving 17 nominations, they only brought home 2.

After winning a Creative Arts Emmy earlier this month for Outstanding Hairstyling for a Miniseries or Movie, last night the show’s Jessica Lange won for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie for her portrayal of Constance Langdon.

In other news relating to the (mini)series, on the red carpet last night TVLine heard from showrunner Ryan Murphy that Eric Stonestreet, who guest starred in Chapter 1 (and won his own Emmy last night for “Modern Family”), will be appearing in Chapter 2 as a killer. He will share a scene with returning regular Sarah Paulson.

Set at an East Coast asylum for the criminally insane, the upcoming Chapter 2 begins October 17th and revolves around Lange’s new character — a nun — and her boss at the institution, played by James Cromwell, and is about sanity and tackling real-life horrors.

“the jury’s still out as to whether it paid off for them or not. After receiving 17 nominations, they only brought home 2.”

I’m not sure the jury it out at all. If it’s in the “series” category it doesn’t get anywhere near 17 nominations and probably doesn’t get at least one of its two wins.

There have been several reports that the tactic may have backfired on them and the show might have been “punished” for doing so. I think Lange probably would have won regardless, but you never know how the other categories might have played out. Typical showbiz shenanigans I guess!
