With the Saw franchise on hold for now, Lionsgate keeps right on mining away for young talent, and that’s a very good thing. Next up for the house that Jigsaw built is a feature-length version of the Francesco Calabrese short film Lovely Monster.

Variety reports that Lionsgate is in negotiations to acquire the rights to a planned feature adaptation of Calabrese’s well-received horror short, which the Italian helmer will direct from a script by John Scott 3. Alli Shearmur will produce the film, which follows a young woman battling a rare and lethal illness that turns her into a monster.
