So what’s next for Oldboy director Chan-Wook Park now that Stoker has wrapped? Some good old fashioned ultra violence in the West. Read on for the latest, and if this proves to be Dread-worthy, expect a lot more coverage.
According to Variety, Korean helmer Chan-wook Park is in talks to direct Craig Zahler’s Black List Western The Brigands of Rattleborge, which Red Granite Pictures has come on to fully finance and co-produce with Mythology Entertainment.
Red Granite toppers Riza Aziz and Joey McFarland will produce with Mythology’s Bradley Fischer (Shutter Island). The other Mythology principals are Laeta Kalogridis and James Vanderbilt, who will likely be involved in a producing capacity, though their exact credits, along with those of Mike Medavoy, Arnold Messer and Zahler, are still being worked out.
Red Granite Pictures’ sales arm, Red Granite International, will handle foreign sales for the film.
The ultra-violent thriller follows a sheriff and a doctor who seek revenge against a group of bandits who use the cover of a torrential thunderstorm to rob and terrorize the occupants of a small town. The script topped the 2006 Black List but has languished in development due to its violent content, which will likely necessitate the casting of a major star.
