Josh Vargas' Don't Look in the Basement Redux Update
Director Josh Vargas (Sway) dropped us a line today updating us on his remake of the S.F Brownrigg film Don't Look in the Basement, and things seem as if they're finally cookin'!
After a long wait Josh was able to finally release some casting news. Look for the flick to be featuring Brooke Lewis (iMurders, Dahmer vs. Gacy) as Charlotte Beale, Kelli Maroney (Chopping Mall, Night Of The Comet, Fast Times at Ridgemont High) as Nurse Jane St. Claire, Kristen Hall (Sweatshop, Possum Walk) as Harriett Whitmore, Tyler Tackett (Possum Walk, Renfield) as Danny Hinderman, and producer Parrish Randall (The Quick and the Undead, Walking Distance, and Possum Walk) as Judge Oliver W. Cameron.
"I'm very proud to have the opportunity to remake this film, which is one I've loved for many years," says Vargas. "I'm beyond ecstatic about bringing this story to a new audience! This is definitely a film that NEEDS a good remake. Burt and Parrish have completely KILLED as producers, and not only do they have the utmost respect for the original Brownrigg classic, but they have busted their asses to put a cast in front of me that even exceeded my expectations. We will be announcing more of our cast as early as next week, and believe me when I say we haven't blown our 'casting load' yet. There will be some VERY COOL news announced that I think horror fans are really going to dig. We're not gonna let you guys down, I promise!"
Filming begins July 16th-29th in Tehuacana, TX at the same location as the original. Check out the plot crunch below!
Young nurse Charlotte Beale arrives at the "Stevens Sanitarium and Home for the Mentally Ill" after accepting a job offer from the Sanitarium's head doctor, Dr. Roy Stevens, who is known for his unorthodox methods of treating the mentally insane. Upon arrival, she is greeted with a stunning revelation: Dr. Stevens and the majority of the staff have been murdered by one of the patients, and the Sanitarium itself is on the brink of takeover. The only remaining staff member, Dr. Geraldine Masters, has resumed control of the Sanitarium but can hardly remain in control of the patients, who are all forgotten members of society deemed "hopelessly" damaged psychologically. Willing to assist Dr. Masters with the task of keeping the patients under control, she begins to get to know each of the patients and grows particularly fond of a child-like man named Sam.
As she continues to befriend Sam, strange things begin to occur, and Charlotte soon realizes things may not be as the appear, and the sense of grave danger becomes imminent.
