Check out the Norwegian Research Camp from The Thing Prequel

One of the *ahem* things that made John Carpenter’s 1981 splatter classic The Thing so frighteningly good was the film’s completely isolated setting. To say it was claustrophobic is a bit of an understatement. With a prequel on the way we can only hope that the same feeling of isolation is recaptured to help heighten the terror.

The first image of the Norwegian Research Camp (home of “them crazy Swedes”) just slipped online, and we have to say the look and vibe are feeling pretty damned right.

Universal’s prequel to the John Carpenter classic The Thing is now shooting up in Toronto, Canada under the direction of Matthijs Van Heijningen. Look for more soon.

Synopsis
A Ph.D. candidate (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) joins a Norwegian research team in Antarctica after it discovers an alien ship in the ice. When a trapped organism is freed and begins a series of attacks, she is forced to team with a blue-collar mercenary helicopter pilot (Joel Edgerton) to stop the rampage.
