Demons Debut Sets a Record for BBC AmericaWe meant to write up a quick story reminding Dread Central’s readers about the premiere of Demons on BBC America this past Saturday, January 2nd, but it seems a reminder wasn’t necessary after all as the show delivered the network its highest rated premiere ever for a new series.

In addition, among Persons 2+, Demons ranks as the #2 telecast of all time on BBC America in Live and #6 in Live + Same Day.

Demons, from the writers of Hex and Merlin, puts a contemporary spin on the legacy of Bram Stoker’s Dracula as the last descendant of Van Helsing battles evil in the underworld of modern-day London. Here’s the full synopsis:

Luke Rutherford (Christian Cooke) is an average teenager, but with the arrival of his dead father’s best friend Rupert Galvin (Philip Glenister), Luke’s life is about to be flipped upside down. Galvin is a straight-talking, headstrong American who has come to tell Luke his secret destiny – he’s the real-life great-great grandson of Abraham Van Helsing, the vampire hunter in Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Luke’s destined to inherit the family mantle as a warrior in the coldest of cold wars against the supernatural entities behind every myth and legend from vampires to werewolves and all things that go bump in the night.

The series continues with U.S. premiere episodes on Saturdays at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on BBC America. (If you missed Episode 1, it will air again this Saturday at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT and is also available On Demand from various cable providers.) Visit the official Demons BBC America site for more, and check it out this weekend if you have a chance!
