Fans of The Walking Dead will have a chance to purchase the hardcover edition of The Walking Dead Compendium, Volume One at the upcoming Comic-Con International in San Diego.
The 100 copies of the gold-stamped, hardbound edition brought to Seattle for the Emerald City Comicon last March sold out in a matter of minutes, leaving 900 copies left to sell at the SDCC, which takes place in the San Diego Convention Center on July 11-15. The hardcover Compendium collects Issues #1-48 of The Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, Charlie Adlard, and Cliff Rathburn, and is $100.
Because of the limited quantity, attendees will draw tickets at the Image Comics/Skybound booth (#2729) for a chance to purchase a Compendium. Attendees will draw from a bowl of tickets, and if the ticket they draw is a winner, they will get to purchase one copy of the Compendium. A limited number of Compendiums will be sold each day and are limited to one copy per person. Each attendee may draw tickets only once per day. The tickets will be available each day at the opening of the convention, beginning on July 11 (Preview Night), and will be available until all of that day’s Compendiums are sold out.
A paperback edition of The Walking Dead Compendium, Volume One will also be available at the Skybound booth for $59.99. Can’t make it to the show? Get your copy from the EvilShop below.
The Walking Dead Compendium, Volume Two was announced today by USA Today, as follows:
Due out October 3rd from Image Comics’ Skybound imprint, The Walking Dead, Compendium Two collects the second eight trade-paperback volumes of writer Robert Kirkman’s award-winning survival horror series. For those who are coming to the comic from the popular AMC TV show or who are catching up from the first Compendium (which topped Amazon’s list of top-selling graphic novels), the new 1,068-page book will cost fans $59.99 — a good deal since the single volumes retail for $14.99 each — and contain Issues #49-96 of the comic.
With a new cover by Walking Dead artists Charlie Adlard and Cliff Rathburn, the second Compendium begins with Rick Grimes and his boy Carl coming to grips with a major change in their lives — as if the zombie apocalypse wasn’t a big enough change — and features fan-favorite characters such as Michonne in stories that lead up to the current monthly storyline. (The landmark 100th issue comes out July 11.)
The monster compendium also happens to be Kirkman’s favorite format for The Walking Dead. “It’s just such a big, huge book that really offers a lot of bang for your buck,” he says. “The idea of having Volume 1 and 2 sitting next to each other on a reinforced shelf really excites me. I’m thrilled that we finally have enough issues released to be able to produce Volume 2. Now I’m looking forward to four years of ‘When does Volume 3 come out?'”
