The Hollywood Reporter
A hero is only as good as his villain, and hopefully the new RoboCop will be taking on a force so nefarious that he’ll have no choice but to paint the screen red. Or then again it’ll probably be rated PG-13, in which case we’ll be lucky to get one use of the F word.
Either way THR is reporting that Hugh Laurie (“House M.D.”) is in negotiations to play the villain in RoboCop, MGM and Sony’s remake of the classic 1987 sci-fi action movie. If cast, Laurie will play the evil and ultra-rich CEO of OmniCorp, the company that makes RoboCop.
The flick sees Joel Kinnaman (“The Killing”) as the title hero, a cop named Alex Murphy who is brought back from the brink of death and turned into a cyborg police officer. Gary Oldman has already been cast as his scientist-creator. Samuel L. Jackson will play Pat Novak, a charismatic media mogul and a powerful force in the RoboCop world.
Currently the film has a tentative release date of August 9th, 2013.
