This weekend’s premiere of Jersey Shore Shark Attack begins the first of four straight weeks of new Syfy creature features. We now have our first look at what to expect three Saturdays from now when New Orleans is under siege by huge albino spiders unleashed by an Arachnoquake.
Swamp Shark director Griff Furst unleashes a new terror on Southern Louisiana in this Syfy original from writers Paul A. Birkett (Altitude) and Eric Forsberg (Mega Piranha). It’s up to Tracey Gold (“Growing Pains”), Edward Furlong (Terminator 2: Judgment Day), Ethan Philips (“Star Trek: Voyager”), and the appropriately named Bug Hall (American Pie Presents: The Book of Love) to save the Big Easy from a horde of over-sized albino spiders set loose from their underground lair by an earthquake.
I’m going to assume that the earth beneath the below sea level city of New Orleans being heavily saturated with water explains how these fire-breathing arachnids have been kept at bay all these years prior to an earthquake opening up their escape route. Being that they are most likely used to dealing with subterranean water also explains why they’re able to swim after boats as seen in the trailer. Yeah, I’m probably just over-thinking this.
Entertainment Weekly’s Inside TV debuted the Arachnoquake trailer today, and it looks like big dumb fun (click the image below to see it since it isn’t embeddable). Even if you’re arachnophobic, I don’t think you’ll have too much trouble watching this trailer because there’s something about the look of the spiders that makes them appear almost robotic in nature.
Arachnoquake has its world premiere on Syfy June 23rd at 9/8 Central.
